Who’s behind Mad Art Materials?

It all started with a mad idea: Josh Hernandez, (aka Mad Charcoal), started this brand because he needed better tools for his own work, so he built them! Every product here is something he personally stands behind and uses in the studio.

How did this idea begin?

Josh Hernandez, a charcoal artist known for his bold, expressive work, had an obsession with perfecting the tools of his craft. His longtime friend Eric Dyer, an analytical thinker with a head for strategy and systems, saw the potential to turn that passion into something much bigger. Together, two friends set out to build the best and most thoughtfully designed drawing materials out there.

What makes Mad Art Materials different?

Every product in the Mad Art Materials lineup is developed and tested by Josh himself, refined through countless hours in the studio. Just see what Josh has been creating (@madcharcoal) on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Everything you see there is made with Mad gear. It’s the real deal.

Who does the packing and shipping?

We have a small but mighty team at the Mad Charcoal studio that curates and hand packs every Mad Art Material. So if you have an issue or there was a mistake just check out the Support page and we’ll make it right.
